APR.5,1915 The Construction of the Hiroshima Prefectural Commercial Exhibition Hall is completed.
AUG.15,1915 The Hiroshima Prefectural Commercial Exhibition Hall opens.
JAN.1,1921 Name changed to the Hiroshima Prefectural Products Exhibition Hall.
NOV.1,1935 Name changed to the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall.
AUG.6,1945 Atomic bomb explodes approximately 150 meters southeast of the building (approximately 580 meters above), causing extensive damage and fires. Everyone in the building at the time was killed instantly.
1947 From about this time, debate begins on the demolition or preservation of the Dome.
AUG.6,1949 Winning entry is decided in public contest for design of the Peace Memorial Park. The concept of the Peace Memorial Park centered on the Dome takes shape.
AUG.6,1952 The Peace Memorial Ceremony begins before the Cenotaph for the Atomic Bomb Victims (official name: Memorial Monument for Hiroshima, City of Peace) in the Peace Memorial Park.
NOV.14,1953 Hiroshima Prefecture donates the Dome to the City of Hiroshima.
AUG.24,1955 Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum opens.
DEC.2,1960 The Japan Council against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs requests the city of Hiroshima to preserve the Dome.
1962 Wire netting is placed around the Dome, and entry inside is prohibited.
MAR.31,1964 The Construction of the Peace Memorial Park is completed.
DEC.22,1964 Eleven peace organizations request the City of Hiroshima to preserve the Dome.
MAR.29,1965 Nobel prize winners, Hideki Yukawa and others request the City of Hiroshima to preserve the Dome.
JUL.28,1965 The City of Hiroshima begins the first survey on the preservation of the Dome.
JUL.11,1966 The Hiroshima City Council adopts resolution on preservation of the Dome.
NOV.1,1966 The City of Hiroshima begins fund-raising campaign for preservation of the Dome (ultimately collecting 促66 million).
APR.10,1967 The City of Hiroshima begins the first stage of construction work for preservation of the Dome.

SEP.30,1992 The City of Hiroshima completes the first survey on the degree of stability of the Dome.
JUN. 27,1995 The Minister of Education designates the Dome as a Historic Site on the basis of the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties.
