d) Location and area The nominated cultural property is a group of buildings of Itsukushima-jinja (located in Miyajima-cho, Saeki-gun, Hiroshima Prefecture) and a forested area around Mt. Misen spreading behind the buildings to form the value of a single property. The rest of Itsukushima Island and part of the sea in front of Itsukushima-jinja are set as a buffer zone. The entire area is already protected, enshrouded in a region designated as a Special Historic Site and a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and Setonaikai National Park by the national government of Japan.

The location of the nominated property is shown in Appendix 1.
