Inban refers to the technique of applying decoration on ceramics using stencils and transfers. Following the inttroduction of commercially manufactured cobalt glaze after the Meiji period, this inban process was extensively employed on various kinds of tableware. Inban plates, bowls, sake bottles and stacked food containers were mass-produced at Mino and Imari kilns and came to be widely used.
