Pine, Bamboo, and Plum

Paintings / Edo

By Tatebayashi Kagei (dates unknown)

Edo period, 18th century

Color and gold leaf on paper

The mushroom-like pine needles of this screen are a characteristic of the decorative style of the artist Ogata Kōrin (1658–1716). The plums and pines overlapping each other is unusual but was probably done intentionally.
