Ishizara "srone" plate: design of irises
Details
Ishizara (lit. "stone" plates) are crude, heavy, glazed stonrware serving plates for everyday use made in the Seto region since the late Edo period (late 18th to early 19th century). The designs were applied with natural cobalt and iron oxide underglazes. The name ishizara is said to have derived from its resemblance to Korean stone plates or from its glaze which contains feldspar.
