蓋表に菊の折枝と短冊を描いている。短冊には、金の平文で表わされた「我が宿の」「いく」の文字が見えており、これが『拾遺和歌集』の清原元輔の歌｢わが宿の菊の白露今日ごとに 幾代つもりて淵となるらむ｣によった意匠であると知られる。
