Calligraphy in One Line
Gyokushitsu Sōhaku was the 147th abbot of Daitokuji in Kyoto. He and other Zen monks were banished after the samurai government cracked down on imperial Zen patronage in the so-called “Purple Robe Incident” of 1629.
